1.0 Building Material Supplies (Pty) Ltd. (BMS)

Building Material Supplies (Pty) Ltd (BMS) is a part of World Group of Companies which is the largest building materials and hardware vendor in Botswana. BMS was the inception of the building materials division of World Group of Companies started in Francistown which Group has also grown to be one of the biggest employers in the private sector in the country.

BMS was incorporated in 1989 with 12 employees and with a space 3,000 square metres on Sam Nujoma Drive in Light Industrial Area in Francistown. During the past 28 years the Company has grown in leaps and bounds increasing the business infrastructure size to the present 26,000 square metres in area, consisting of 4 plots adjacent to each other bordering Sam Nujoma Drive in front and Gemsbok Street at the rear, in the heart of light industrial area. And also continuously increasing the number of employees to the current 125.

We now also have a fleet of 15 trucks 5 forklifts of our own, and we have a pool of 20 local transporters, whom we support by giving them loads to deliver within all of Botswana.

4.0 Code of Ethics

The Board of Directors of BMS all follow an ethical code of conduct and insists that all the employees from senior managers down to the labourer also be ethical to do what is right, honest and fair, in all circumstances with our staff and company and shareholders, suppliers and customers.

6.0 Corporate Social Responsibility

” Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large”

We at Building Material Supplies believe the sustainable society demands parallel growth in business and social and economic status. Keeping that in mind Building Material Supplies has initiated numerous projects to assist and encourage employees and the less fortunate social members around Francistown in particular and the North East and Central District of Botswana in general.

6.1 Staff Welfare.

Realising that our staff is also a very valuable integral part of our business, BMS has over the years initiated and are now implementing the following for our staff:-

6.1.1 Funeral Benefit Fund

A non-contributory funeral benefit fund wherein all employees, their parents, spouse and children up to the age of 18 years are covered in the event of death of any of the family members, giving P 5000.00 for each death. This was necessitated by realising the extreme pressure our staff came under towards funeral expanses of their loved ones they have lost. (See a copy of the newsprint showing this event)

6.1.2 End of year festive season hampers (Christmas) 

We can once again say with extreme pride and joy, that instead of just having Christmas parties each year end, where only the employee will enjoy for one evening only, we started giving grocery hampers to each employee valued at P650 each.

6.1.3. Maternity leave with full pay.

Once again recaps will show that we have taken a leading role by allowing full-Pay whilst on maternity leave to all our female staff irrespective of the length of service. The government regulation for 50% only came in to force after we were already paying the full salary.

6.1.4 Daily Issue of Tea, Bread and Fruits.

Daily ration of breakfast and fruit to each employee. Realising that our staff need nourishment in order to perform these duties with a certain level of energy and enthusiasm; we provide breakfast and a fruit every morning to each of our employees free of charge.

6.1.5. Long service certificate and awards.

At the end of each year, at the time of giving Christmas hampers to all employees long service certificates for Five, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty and twenty five years are also given together with P 750.00, P 2000.00, P 3,500.00, P 6000.00 and P10,000.00 cash awards respectively to each recipient.

6.1.6. Two-Nights, Three Days trip to Kasane (Chobe National Park) and Victoria Falls.

In addition to the above all employees who have completed 15 years of service are also given once in life time all-expenses paid holiday, visiting Chobe Game drives and boat cruses, and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe as well.

6.1.7. Staff Training and Development.

The Board of Directors believe the training and development of staff will benefit not only BMS, but also the society at large as the employees will take what they learn to their homes and villages.

6.2 Community based corporate responsibility.

Our list of involvement over the past twenty years is very large. However, we mention below some of them.

6.2.1 Mabisekwa local community.

Donation of a tractor, Ploughing implements and a trailer to Mabisekwa local community. (VDC)

6.2.2 Francistown Independence Soccer Cup.

As our contribution towards the annual Independence celebration, we have sponsored a soccer cup and prize money since 2002, providing free entertainment to the public and encouraging development of local lower league soccer under FRAFA.

Since 2011 we have also added price money for the ladies team who play for curtain raisers before the main match, to encourage ladies football as well.

6.2.3 Disaster Relief.

When the storm disaster struck the Francistown in November 2010, we voluntarily approached the DC’s office (Mr. Macha) offering any help we could assist with.

We were asked to provide emergency food baskets for the destitute members of the Francistown community and donated drinking water and a chain saw and petrol to the BDF personnel who were removing fallen trees and debris from people houses.

6.2.4. Thachila Community Game Reserve.

We have contributed towards the 40Km game fence for the Thachila nature reserve community project for which HE, The President is the Patron and supplied all fencing material at cost (No Profit), as an added contribution from us, giving the project a saving of about P 150,000.00.

6.2.5.  Mathangwane Village.

Donated all building and fencing materials for the construction of toilets and yard fence at the orphanage centre.

6.2.6. Monarch Satellite Police Station.

Donated P 15,000.00 towards the construction of a “Community “Police station building at Monarch.

6.2.7. Mambo Village.

Donation of building materials required for the construction of a destitute house, including free transport.

6.2.8 Tsetsebe Village.

Donation of fencing materials for Top-Banana community project at the village and supplying other building material at special prices and free deliveries.

6.2.9 La Modimo Charity Centre

Financial donation for La Modimo Charity Centre to uplift their day to day functions.

As part of the on-going expansion of our business, the acquisition of the “Railway Yard “means that we will increase our product range to include stock and face bricks and gum poles, hence increasing the labour and supervisory force as well.

9.0 Returns / Refunds Policies

Our ultimate goal is for you our valued customer to be completely satisfied with your purchase from Building Material Supplies. Should you wish material wrongly purchased or return extra materials bought, we will gladly exchange/refund the full value of materials provided they are still in good condition and you have the original invoice to ascertain the value thereof. Understandably, products cannot be returned or refunded if:

• Cut to measure, as these have been customized to suit your needs

• Damaged by lightning

• Misused or purposely damaged

• Used for a purpose other than that for which it was designed

• Not used as described in the user manual supplied with the product
